Marc Petrovic
Marc Petrovic received his BFA in 1991 from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He returned to his alma mater this fall, when he became the Chair of the Glass Department. In the interim, he spent more than two decades working as a studio artist with a practice focused on three dimensional work which explores familial relationships, shelter, home and geographical identification using glass as his primary material. Technical mastery of the medium has afforded him the freedom to innovate and push old techniques to new heights. His ability to easily go between obsessive, meditative labor, visionary abstraction and poignant realism is what sets Marc’s practice apart.
His work has been widely exhibited and is represented in numerous private and public collections including the Museum of Arts and Design, New York; Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, AZ and the Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC.
His most recent series, Avian, is a good example. A ‘hot-origami’ process transforms seemingly abstract pattern tablets into bird sculptures with impeccable detail.
